A new Fibreglass antenna from Thunderpole - a fibreglass Silver Rod?

Forget the silly 9.9dB gain claim, but an interesting new addition.

Thunderpole 5 Link

Only a couple of quid cheaper than the A99 they list, so difficult to see a market for it.

i did see this the other day while surfing! it looks exactly the same as there thunderpole 4 was!! they stoped making the thunderpole 4 because it couldnt compeate with the a99 price !! if you look on there site iam not sure but i think the a99 is post free ! but iam not sure about there thunderpole5?? if not then its more than the a99 again!!? i think it will only appeal to the die hard british bulldog type! that buy british. but lets face it those days are long gone now ! 73s

just had another look on the thunderpole site and i think p+p IS extra!!! i would be interested to see if its more efficient than the a99 what with its dual coil design! i would think the thunderpole 5 has only 1 coil same as a silver rod . and by the sounds of it you trim the top section! to acheive low swr! 73s.

It says the antenna has a stainless steel tunable whip top section on the Thunderpole website

I'm tempted to give one a go.

If it was £60, it'd start pulling in some of the A99 trade.

I have ordered from Thunderpole many times. If the order is over 50 quid, it is free postage. They must have forgot to put it on there.

But what I'm wondering about this though, is, which will perform better? The Thunderpole 5 or the Antron 99? I'd personally like to know as I want to buy whichever one of these is the best for when I go up on some high ground to do a bit of DXing. I currently use a Silver Rod Hi-Gain 5/8 Wave which I get reasonable results from. So if someone could let me know, that would be great :)

Looks Interesting, made in Birmingham from the people that make the venom antenna (i was told) and sure as anything will be available here under some name or another. Would i try it? Yes think so but against the Gain Master think it will loose but i would try one.

Looks to be different, saying that maybe would not publish the results as am getting far too many PMs on youtube from this side of the water from people who want to know all the results and not buy stuff. People who leech stuff, or try and get all they can without making investments into the stuff kill the hobby. Not directed at anyone here, but always people want, post, want, post, discuss and when it comes to cash time it ends. Guess certain other forums will discuss it to death and when it comes to it, people will say the wrong colour antenna for the sky or some other BS. Good to see that Thunderpole invested into the UK by making it there, let us hope more will buy than simply bla bla bla bla

I see it more as a A99 alternative than an Imax or Gain Master contender.

Indeed, many sit there ready to knock anything new without ever even seeing one, let alone buying one and trying it out - opinions based on 3rd-hand hearsay.

Looks a neat and simple antenna for those who choose, or need, to go down the fibreglass route - I'm intending to buy one soon and try it out against my A99.

Good on Thunderpole for producing the antenna in the UK.

Is it made or assembled in the UK though? I'm all for supporting british industry, but if the parts don't get made in the UK it defeats the object a tad in my mind.

Yes looks a very interesting A99 alternative for sure. Nice to see a British company investing money. Yes Simon I am getting many PMs and E-mails from people about the GMaster. It's all good if they then spend their own cash on the products and try them for themselves, but just a waste of time if all they want to do is discuss it. Some decent new antennas are well over due in my eyes.

looks like a doubled edged sword here dave.. people will look at reviews before they buy
my self included. and will gather has much info has can be found before parting with ££££££££.

and on the other foot its still a gamble, has what works for you might not be any good for someone in a different location. so could still back fire. Happened to me with the silver rod.
some people swear by them for me s--t

antron99 fab for me wont go down that road though. i suppose its upto the people who shells
out the money on a new product, if they want the world to see weather its any good or not.

im sure 99% of people would rather have a rough idea how well something works before buying.

Someone who's gone out and bought, or at least tried, a piece of equipment has every right to form an opinion - these first-hand opinions are valid and help us all decide what to buy.

What we see too often is extremely vocal opinions on kit by people who have never even tried the item - their comments are based upon what a bloke said on Ch19 one night and the like. Especially with the Internet, these comments get around and before long a good product can be destroyed and future innovation tempered.

It's good to see that on this site we're seeing real kit getting used and reviewed.

Oh yes Taff I agree 100%. that's the reason I myself do the reviews I do ,and generally a lot tend to buy the product. But its the ones who just take the "P" out of things and never try them for themselves. I know things are tight and people want to see what there buying for a start. I know about that for sure , as I'm in the same boat as every one else. Yes ,what may work superb for me,might not for you........a gamble for sure, but hopefully a "Guided Gamble"........73's Dave
