Charlie Tango DX is a group dedicated to Hobby Radio Users in all forms, whether CB, Amateur, PMR446, Scanning and Short Wave Listening.
We are a very active and friendly group that welcomes anyone from anywhere in the world who has an interest in Radio, regardless of their level of experience, their equipment, their location, or their radio preference. We have members varying from fully qualified operators on the Amateur Bands, to newcomers who have just bought a PMR446 set, and many CBers both old and new. All are equal on the Site.

The CT Site contains many reviews, tips and modifications within the forums, and we take pride that no sensible question is ever left unanswered, and nobody is ever belittled or mocked for asking an honest question, no matter how simple it may seem. We were all new to the hobby once.

Why is it when i swr my beam in on the stub pole on the ground the swr gos down to 1.2

Then when i put it up on the rotator, which is on a 20ft pole in the ground, with the same stub pole, same coax used on both it gos out to 2.2+

The ground, or other things around an antenna, have some influence over the SWR of an antenna. I am no authority, but it is my thoughts that you may have to tune the antenna to another frequency on the ground, then see where it goes when you lift it up. Whether you tune it to best SWR lower on the band or higher I wouldn't know, but it is certain that distance from the earth, or something else nearby, or both, is making a difference.

A few days ago I constructed a 2 element beam in the garage. I hooked it up to a SWR meter and without any adjustment had a 1.4:1 in the garage. I took it out of the garage (naturally) and had a LOT of work to do to get a decent SWR on the thing. At 15' up it is where it was in the garage with completely different element lengths and match settings.

Hope this helps.

I would locate the lowest SWR whether up above the desired frequency center or below it, write it down, and then turn to resetting your element lengths. It may be as simple as laying it down on the ground with the reflector to the earth, adjusting the lengths of the elements to move the swr curve up or down the same amount it was in the air then raising it back up to height.
Maybe if you were using a program for calculating your element lengths you can rerun it with your center frequency lower or higher (whichever way it needs to move - if you are at best SWR higher up, then move the lengths to tune for a lower frequency center. If the SWR is lower on lower frequency, adjust for a higher SWR center than you currently have it.) and then reset elements and lift up the antenna. If you are using a gamma match it will likely need some readjustment to help bump the SWR where you need it to be after the elements lengths changes.

These are my guesses. I am no expert on this, just trying to help. I'm sure there are others out there who could jump in and straighten anything I've said up.

The elements are pre drilled you move the gamma rod to change the swr,iv had a couple of these sirio beams and iv had no problems before i may just get a quad antenna instead booms a bit smaller wont take up as much room lol.

one more bash i think with the sirio, when the weather breaks

I see.
If you get tired of the sirio I can supply my address and pay shipping to take it off your hands. . . just kidding.

I like my 2el quad. built it from materials I had and from the Home Depot.

Iv tried the old pdl2 antenna wasn't to bad for its size, used a maco comet antenna that did very good on 27.555 over here just the size of it only little gardens over here

Just costs to much at the moment to import from usa,can get most things over here or Europe just the antennas were the problems
