About 20 years ago I really enjoyed SWL, foreign broadcast, ham, aircraft, anytin.
The pleasure for me was he set up, a homebrew re-gen , and my pride and joy, an old Murphy B40 ex naval valve receiver.
Both were used through a homebrew ATU and a long wire that stretched about 5 metres north/south, then angled for another 3 metres west/east.
Worked well for me, and the pleasure of teasing some of the stations out of the Murphy was brilliant - even after it warmed up it had a fair bit of drift, and would need continious re tuning.

If you don't need to do it today, it ain't worth doing at all
