Anyone ever used a Dial-a-match antenna before?

Just wondering which mobile whip could be compared to it and how well it performs.

Cheers

I bought a dial-a-match a few months ago, just to have a cheap simple mag mount for the car. They're OK, but no performer. It's now been demoted to the Peugeot and is only used on the rare occasions the Missus has a rig in her car and I also have a rig in mine, if we're taking both cars somewhere.

I'd only recommend a dial-a-match as a very basic car-to-car, mobile 4w FM antenna. If you want something on the motor that'll do more, go for a base-load on a decent sized mag - maybe something like a Thunderpole Voyager, or something like the old Modulator . For the car now I use a Hawk (base load, 1.5m), on a 7" mag and it does pretty well, FM and SSB.

Yes indeed I do remember the "Bandit".Seems like yesterday :) The antenna on the Bandits 77 Trans Am was a Antenna Specialists 1500 base loaded whip..........havn't seen one of them for years too!!I have a Valor 48" Dial a match in its packet.......thats where it was put in 1983 because of its poor performance............LOL.The 24" Dial a match must of been a DX Monster!!!.An Antenna also made at the time by Valor......again I have one still on its card is the base loaded Cherokee......I think Thunderpole have "Pilfered" the design for one of their antennas
