Welcome to Charlie Tango mate!

We have a few welsh CB'ers here which will be handy for your radio checks and chats lol!

Please check the "Guides and How-To" forum for info on the Superstar 3900 using UKFM.

If you buy one, get the one with the red LED read-out, they are much better made than the SS3900 EFT with the blue display, the only setback is that you need an external frequency counter but its worth it.

Cheers!

Not to far from you I am from the Blackwood area about 15 miles from Newport.

Noi worries, I should be able to do Blackwood easily. I'm on high ground and have a Sirio 827 on a 20' pole - and, should the need arise, I have up to 100w on tap.

Must admit I'm a bit sceptical about the idea of "...a good loft aerial as well...". In my opinion that's a bit like looking for an intelligent idiot, or an honest politician.

The "Atom" from thunderpole is a good mobile whip on both RX and TX, for static mobile DX i would advise a Tankwhip and for a loft antenna i would say use a Signal keeper.

Do you have to have a loft antenna? Just about ANY outside aerial will knock spots off any loft one.

I mentioned the Sirio Signal Keeper to OffPlanet once, apparently he had one, briefly . . . . it took him ten minutes to stop swearing :)

Very true! Even a mobile whip mounted outside will do better than an indoor one!

Hello Wizard and welcome to the CT site.

Signal Keepers are rubbish I'm afraid, and a DV27 or a Firestik on a groundplane kit will be cheaper and work better.

A loft antenna is a big compromise and if you can fit a full size homebase antenna, then do, as the performance is so much better.

Cheers
Gary
