Glad you guys are expressing yourselves!

I see where your coming from Oggy, I appreciate everyones opinions, thats how we learn! I would consider myself a newbie especially regarding SSB of which i have no idea apart from what i have read.

I like to think im learning more and more about CB each day that i run this website and key my mic!

Here's my opinion..

Either have a clamp down on "Amp/Burner" users to make radio DX'ing a "Fair" hobby using 4W or legalize them to give everyone a fair chance!

Like i said before, I have done well on 4W but do get over powered by other people using big amps.

And, Oggy i dont mind how you speak on here, i see you are just expressing your opinion, Thats exactly what discussion forums are for.

Firetrap: Good for you mate, for your, "i see you are just expressing your opinion" comment.

That's what it is all about, and I'm all up for a lively debate, but I regret that I do object to having a statement of mine referred to as "absolute rubbish".

As for your quote on lots of hams are leaving because of too many new licensees are causing problems is absolute rubbish.

I "just expressed my opinion" by posting something that I have heard in conversation with some people who hold Amateur Radio licences. A simple fact: that they have told me that they're hanging up their microphone due to "too many idiots". It may be that not everyone agrees, as is their right and privilege, but that doesn't make it "absolute rubbish", it merely makes it something that I've experienced but somebody else hasn't.

And Dave, I also didn't say "you're all tank top wearing types". I said the hobby seems to attract more than its fair share. I've met "tank tops" that are into model railways, stamp collecting and train spotting, but I've also met them at Formula One and other motoracing events, I've most certainly found them in the pilots' lounge at various flying clubs (oh, haven't I ever met them there!). I'm sure there are even a few at the Ultimate Fighting Championship societies, but I wouldn't mention it to them.

You're into bikes, excellent, I used to be a biker too and, like your Dad, I was fairly heavily into CB in the late seventies so maybe we have a lot of common ground. I can't match your "lovely wife and son" bit though, I'll have to settle for my lovely-long-term-common-law-(female!)-partner and a couple of dogs due to my lack of a marriage licence and lack of offpsring. [See, another licence I'm lacking ;) ]

And the only reason I asked about your 186 countries was because I thought it was said as explanation as to why FM is no less proliferate than SSB ("I don't see the reason to class SSB DXing any better than FM, I've been there and worked 168 countrys comfirmed").

Thanks for the compliment about my being likely to pass an M6 in a couple of weeks though, that's kind of you. My problem is that I guess I'm just not a "club member" type of person. Maybe if we had a grass-roots club here I'd feel more comfortable having a go, but as it is the idea of entering an established long-term Radio Society fills me with dread. I don't intend to play any sympathy card here so don't get this wrong, but I'm somewhat disabled and as a result I have very limited confidence in strange social situations - and that doesn't help. If I could move to Lincolnshire and have someone like yourself introduce me, I certainly have a go but the only joining suggestion I've had here was the Cranberry and Lemonade one. :(

Going back to the Kingmoff's claim that I was talking "absolute rubbish": Let's just be clear in case there's any lingering doubt, I didn't say I'd heard hundreds, not even dozens, of Hams saying they're going QRT, just "a number" (more than one, less than dozens). And the reason they gave me wasn't due to "too many new licensees are causing problems", it was, quote, due to "too many idiots" on the bands. I also omitted to make any mention that might even infer that there are not "hundreds of hams here in the UK" that are quite happy and have every intention of continuing.

The whole issue of CB, Ham, 11m always raises vitriol but it really shouldn't - we all enjoy a very similar hobby. Let's celebrate the common ground without degenerating to "flaming" other people''s posts. - - Good grief, if I posted an "absolute rubbish", "cobblers!" or even a "balderdash!!" response to every item of twaddle I've read on Forums, I'd wear my keyboard out in a week.

Right ho, I'm off to grab my PMR446 and see if I can run the skip to Aus with my milliwatts ;)

Ok Ok..Get this clear Cherokee.

The 'absolute rubbish' statement is at your ham friends and not you on a personal level one bit. If they want to leave radio, then i'm sure there is a better reason than blaming it on new licensees. They are obviously a minority anyway.

As for this 11m/ham debate. I see it on forums past and now present about how ham is straight jacket old farts etc etc...But the point is, it is always 11m operators starting this silly talk. I am here on this forum for one good reason. I love CB radio...I am not getting in a debate over 11m/ham versus bullsh*t. Radio is radio. You obviously don't want to get on the ham bands...so fine...who cares.

But don't sit there and talk about ham when your not licensed and don't use the bands for dx. Maybe you listen and you hear idiots or what you think are old farts. 11m is the same...

You have your morals and values to follow on 11m yes...? So on the ham bands we DO because we are licensed and HAVE to. So does that make me and old stiff with a straight jacket? No.

One other point is i would rather be licensed and have 12+ bands and also UK40/CEPT to dx on than be sat listening to 555.

Did you actually READ my post, or have you just flown at your keyboard in some kind of auto-defensive response?
When speaking of Oggy's mention of exams, I actually said "I'd like to do that too", and added "if there was a practical way to take the exams I'd be there like a shot". Just to explain, that mean "practical to me" as I realise there is a "practical way", it's done by joining the local ARC. What I don't want to do, based on what I've seen and been told so far, is become a member of the clubs in my immediate vicinty.

Maybe you listen and you hear idiots or what you think are old farts.

Where, exactly, in any of my posts have I mentioned that I've heard "idiots" or "old F*rts", or where have I expressed an opinion to that effect? I did say I've heard some "truly awful Operators" on amateur frequencies, and "some Real Clowns / Cretins" on the CB channels and 11m, and I'll stand by that statement and would be deeply surprised if you can honestly say you disagree. But I'm afraid the only person mentioning "old F*rts", an "old stiff" or a "straight jacket" is yourself.

As for, "i would rather be licensed and have 12+ bands" . . . so would I, oh so would I . . . . and if I can find a way of doing it without a mandatory attendance at a local Club, hopefully, someday, I will.

By the way, what's with the bold text on all your posts? In some online communities that's considered shouting.

Why do we need to take a chill pill Paul???,what you don't seem to understand is most "Hams" under 55 started on CB and progressed ,and most of that era are solid gold guys, again if I was so "Anti CB" and against 11 meter SSB why would I of signed the 2 petitions at 10 Downing Street to legalise 11 meter SSB in the UK????.I have and indeed own lots of SSB radios for this band. How many of you were using CB at 10 year old in 1978??? (OK I know Cherokee was), I know I was and still am in my middle age.Did any of you go to London and Manchester in 79/80 to the CB legalisation marches????????......yes I did with my late father!! and am proud of the fact and will fight the cause for CB Radio till I take my last breath.......so yes some amateurs are arses, some CBers are arses. But at the end of the day its all radio to me,and if I get insulted on Forums (this or any other) I will stop bottering with posting on them, I like this forum and most members impress me of their understanding of radio, which is a good thing..........anyway we've had a good day on UK FM again, worked Frank in Austria (again) and the best one was a chap near Lands End with a Firestik on a steel roof with a Convoy 1 on 4 watts!!!!..........that copy due to what he was running is what CB Radio is about to me!!..........DAVE

Cool! I'd have waved to you on the Lonodn bash if I'd known . . . err, no that's all wrong  Ah hell, you know what I mean.

Still think it might have been a mistake though. I preferred the AM days to the early 27/81 ones.
