The stock mic does work well and the TX audio is good (lovely retro mic it is too!) I tried added extra shielding around the PSU using thin perforated metal and it did reduce the hum, but not by enough for my liking. Mine has now been converted to 12v (it's too far from mint to worry about originality). When I get the chance I will experiment with alternative mains power supplies. I'm told the board is peculiar to the radio and not Amstrad, Uniden, Great or Cybernet. I have seen a couple that have been converted to 80ch as they do share a lot of similar components with other rigs. Look forward to seeing the old gem on Youtube. Cheers Gary |

Here's a quote from Nick-the-Rig-Doctor when I asked him about the possibility of doing a Mid Block Mod on a Murphy (that's when Gary had just received his Murphy and was tempted to up it to 80 Ch), "The murphy is a board of its own, not really used in anything else. I have fitted mid in one some years ago so that shouldnt be a problem" |

LOL, with your collection I rather thought you might. . . . I posted the Nick quote mainly to confirm that a Murphy has a fairly unique main board. |
